The Apache POI team is pleased to announce the availability of Apache POI 3.1-FINAL.
Apache POI is well-known in the Java field as a library for reading and
writing OLE2 office file formats, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and

POI-HWPF - Java API To Access Microsoft Word Format Files
* Handling of embedded OLE2 documents
* Support for extracting Escher images from HWPF files
* Improved Range.replaceText()

APIs for manipulating various file formats based upon Microsoft's OLE 2 Compound Document format using pure Java. POI is your Java Excel solution as well as your Java Word solution. However, we have a complete API for porting other OLE 2 Compound Document formats and welcome others to participate.
