02 April 2008 - Apache CXF 2.0.5 (incubating) Now Available

The Apache Incubator CXF team is proud to announce the availability of the 2.0.5 release

Apache CXF is an open source services framework. CXF helps you build and develop services using frontend programming APIs, like JAX-WS. These services can speak a variety of protocols such as SOAP, XML/HTTP, RESTful HTTP, or CORBA and work over a variety of transports such as HTTP, JMS or JBI.

CXF includes a broad feature set, but it is primarily focused on the following areas:

Web Services Standards Support: CXF supports a variety of web service standards including SOAP, the Basic Profile, WSDL, WS-Addressing, WS-Policy, WS-ReliableMessaging, and WS-Security.

Frontends: CXF supports a variety of "frontend" programming models. CXF provides a JAX-WS Compliant frontend. It also includes a "simple frontend" which allows creation of clients and endpoints without annotations. CXF supports both contract first development with WSDL and code first development starting from Java.

Ease of use: CXF is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. There are simple APIs to quickly build code-first services, Maven plug-ins to make tooling integration easy, JAX-WS API support, Spring 2.0 XML support to make configuration a snap, and much more.

This release is mostly a patch release to fix problems and issues (over 30 JIRA items resolved) that users have encountered in the 2.0.4-incubator release.

21 June 2007 - Apache OpenJPA Graduates from Incubation to Become Top Level Project

The Apache OpenJPA Project Team is pleased to announce that the Apache Incubator has recommended, and the Apache Board of Directors has accepted, a resolution to create the Apache OpenJPA Top Level Project.

Apache OpenJPA is a project that implements Object Relational Mapping, and currently implements the standard JCP JSR-220 Java Persistence API (JPA). The latest release passes the JCP TCK for JSR-220 100%, meaning it is fully compliant with the standard.

Starting with a contribution by BEA of the mapping engine and JPA interface from the popular Kodo project, OpenJPA attracted support from a diverse set of contributors, committers, and users from independent individuals and companies, including several Apache projects. The project has learned how to govern itself and has produced two releases while in incubation.

To assist in developing persistence applications OpenJPA works out-of-the-box with popular IDE's such as Eclipse and Netbeans. Additionally, plugin modules are available for the Apache Maven software project management and comprehension tool.

Many projects have adopted OpenJPA to provide the Object Relational Mapping for their needs, including Apache ActiveMQ, BEA Kodo, BEA WebLogic Server, Apache Camel, Apache Geronimo, Apache Ode, Apache OpenEJB, and IBM WebSphere Application Server. The community plans shortly to release version 1.0.0 of OpenJPA, reflecting the maturity and production quality of the code base.

05 June 2007 - Apache Tuscany SCA Java 0.90 (incubated) released

The Apache Tuscany team are pleased to announce the 0.90-incubating release of the Java SCA project. Apache Tuscany provides a runtime based on the Service Component Architecture. SCA is a set of specifications aimed at simplifying SOA Application Development which are being standardized at OASIS as part of Open Composite Services Architecture (Open CSA). This release represents a significant milestone on the road to an Apache Tuscany SCA 1.0 release. It is based on the final 1.0 versions of the SCA specifications and it includes a substantial redesign of parts of the runtime which has significantly improved usability compared with previous releases, as well as providing stable, easy to use SPIs for extension development. To download or for more information about the release go to: http://incubator.apache.org/tuscany/sca-java-releases.html To find out more about OASIS Open CSA go to: http://www.oasis-opencsa.org. Apache Tuscany welcomes your help. Any contribution, including code, testing, improving the documentation, or bug reporting is always appreciated. For more information on how to get involved in Apache Tuscany visit the website at: http://incubator.apache.org/tuscany. Thank you for your interest in Apache Tuscany! The Apache Tuscany Team. --- Tuscany is an effort undergoing incubation at the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the Apache Web services PMC. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF....

09 March 2005 - The Apache Directory Project Exits Incubator

The Apache Directory team proudly announces the Apache Directory project graduated incubation under the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) according to the ASF Board Summary for February 23, 2005.

Our primary vision is to build an enterprise directory server platform (Apache Directory Server) and its components where other Internet services snap in to store their data within the directory so they may be managed using LDAP. Those services include LDAP itself, DNS, DHCP, SLP, UDDI, NTP, and most importantly Kerberos, which can integrate with the services to provide full-featured network authentication service.

Features of Apache Directory Server:

Designed as an LDAP and X.500 experimentation platform.

The server exposes all aspects of administration via a special system backend.

Both the backend subsystem and the frontend are separable and independently embeddable.

Provides a server side JNDI LDAP provider which directly interacts with the backend storage.

Powered by MINA, a powerful framework for building Internet protocol servers.

Coming soon:

Remote management via JMX.

Java-based triggers and stored procedures.

The Apache Directory team is looking for developers and users to work with the server and give feedback. Mailing list information is at: http://directory.apache.org/mailing-lists.html

Check the Apache Directory project at: http://directory.apache.org/

The Apache Software Foundation provides organizational, legal, and financial support for a broad range of open source software projects. The Foundation provides an established framework for intellectual property and financial contributions that simultaneously limits contributors potential legal exposure. Through a collaborative and meritocratic development process, Apache projects deliver enterprise-grade, freely available software products that attract large communities of users.

09 December 2004 - Apache Derby 10.0.2.1 (Under Incubation) Released

The Apache Derby development community is pleased to announce its first release after being accepted into the Apache Incubator, Apache Derby 10.0.2.1. Derby can be downloaded from here.

Derby is a pure Java, standards-based relational database engine. Derby aims to be an easy to use solution for data management for software developers with zero administration for end users.

The release serves as a baseline for future development of Derby, and to allow users to begin using an official release. It also contains a number of bug fixes and other changes. See the CHANGES file in the distribution for a full list of changes.

Apache Derby is an effort undergoing incubation at the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision-making process have stabilised in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF.

17 October 2004 - Apache Avalon Merlin becomes Metro

Following various discussions with the Apache Avalon PMC, select ASF members and others, the active developers of the Merlin source code together with a number of dedicated users have formulated a plan to escalate and expand the development of the Metro platform outside of ASF. We have compiled a complete roadmap of what this means in practical terms to various user groups, available at; http://www.dpml.net/dpml/admin/pdfs/metro-roadmap-20041007.pdf We hope that this document covers most aspects of the involved fork, even though it is not yet complete. For instance, the document doesn't yet explain exactly how this will take form. Digital Product Meta Library (dpml.net) is an existing resource hub of digital products. We have agreed to utilize this name and the resources available behind it, mainly ibiblio.org. Driven by our user focus here in Avalon, we are now pushing the "Open" in "OSS" to a concept that we call "Open Participation Software". Contributions and committer status are available to everyone. Organizational Lightweight, open process, open participation, ASL2.0, and lots of fun. We are not fully up to speed (yet), but have the following resources available, which should be sufficient for most users at this point in time; Mailing lists; List: admin-dpml@lists.dpml.net Description: Project management related stuff. Subscribe: http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/admin-dpml List: dev-dpml@lists.dpml.net Description: Development related stuff. Subscribe: http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/dev-dpml List: support-dpml@lists.dpml.net Description: Questions and general user support. Subscribe: http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/support-dpml Web sites; www.dpml.net Static content and static repository. paris.dpml.net Dynamic content Subversion repository; http://paris.dpml.net/svn/metro Scarab Issuetracking; http://paris.dpml.net/issues (paris.dpml.net will become operational *soon*, as we are awaiting ibiblio.org admin's to add the host to the DNS and a new IP to be installed. Sorry for the inconvenience, and announcement of availability will be made on the admin-dpml@ mailing list.) We would like to thank the entire ASF, members, committers and users for the time at the Apache...
