Apache Incubator Sanselan is a pure-Java image library. It supports reading and writing a variety of image formats including reading and writing image metadata.

This release includes greatly improved support for reading and writing EXIF and IPTC metadata. It also includes fixes for a number of important bugs.

UIMA-AS adds a highly flexible, robust, and easy to use scaleout capability to the core UIMA framework; it can be considered to be a next-generation replacement for the original CPM (Collection Processing Management) scaleout that is part of the core UIMA framework.

Now you can selectively scale up (to take advantage of multiple cores) or scale out (over local and/or wide area networks) just those analytics that need the scaling, thus allowing optimization of computing resources. UIMA-AS has been successfully used on multiple projects, and scaled out to 100's of cores, with no limit in sight.

It makes use of JMS (Java Messaging Services) and uses Apache ActiveMQ to support messaging between components. Already written UIMA Components can take advantage of UIMA-AS scaleout with no code or component descriptor changes.

Apache CXF is an open source services framework. CXF helps you build and develop services using frontend programming APIs, like JAX-WS. These services can speak a variety of protocols such as SOAP, XML/HTTP, RESTful HTTP, or CORBA and work over a variety of transports such as HTTP, JMS or JBI.

CXF includes a broad feature set, but it is primarily focused on the following areas:

• Web Services Standards Support: CXF supports a variety of web service standards including SOAP, the Basic Profile, WSDL, WS-Addressing, WS-Policy, WS-ReliableMessaging, and WS-Security.
• Frontends: CXF supports a variety of "frontend" programming models. CXF provides a JAX-WS Compliant frontend. It also includes a "simple frontend" which allows creation of clients and endpoints without annotations. CXF supports both contract first development with WSDL and code first development starting from Java.
• Ease of use: CXF is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. There are simple APIs to quickly build code-first services, Maven plug-ins to make tooling integration easy, JAX-WS API support, Spring 2.0 XML support to make configuration a snap, and much more.

This release is mostly a patch release to fix problems and issues (over 30 JIRA items resolved) that users have encountered in the 2.0.4-incubator release.

This release of Apache Tuscany SCA builds on the stability and modularity established with the previous releases and includes more complete implementation of SCA specifications, support for distributed SCA domains, SCA policy, OSGi implementation types, and pub/sub support with notification components. Start up time and memory footprint of the runtime has been reduced and there have been numerous bug fixes. This is expected to be the last point release before the 1.0 final release.

Apache OpenJPA is a project that implements Object Relational Mapping, and currently implements the standard JCP JSR-220 Java Persistence API (JPA). The latest release passes the JCP TCK for JSR-220 100%, meaning it is fully compliant with the standard.

Starting with a contribution by BEA of the mapping engine and JPA interface from the popular Kodo project, OpenJPA attracted support from a diverse set of contributors, committers, and users from independent individuals and companies, including several Apache projects. The project has learned how to govern itself and has produced two releases while in incubation.

To assist in developing persistence applications OpenJPA works out-of-the-box with popular IDE's such as Eclipse and Netbeans. Additionally, plugin modules are available for the Apache Maven software project management and comprehension tool.

Many projects have adopted OpenJPA to provide the Object Relational Mapping for their needs, including Apache ActiveMQ, BEA Kodo, BEA WebLogic Server, Apache Camel, Apache Geronimo, Apache Ode, Apache OpenEJB, and IBM WebSphere Application Server. The community plans shortly to release version 1.0.0 of OpenJPA, reflecting the maturity and production quality of the code base.

Additionally, OpenJPA has been integrated with numerous other frameworks including Spring Framework, GlassFish, JOnAS Application Server, Sun Java System Application Server.
