15 October 2005 - [Miscs] Apache Struts - Get a better handle on Struts actions, with Spring

"Struts Recipes co-author George Franciscus is back with another great Struts integration recipe -- this time for importing Struts applications into the Spring framework. Follow along as George shows you how to revamp Struts actions so they can be managed just like Spring beans. The result is a boosted web framework that easily reaps the benefits of Spring AOP."

07 September 2004 - Cocoon GetTogether 2004 (11-12/Oct) open for registration

This year's edition of the Cocoon GetTogether will be better than ever, with an agenda filled to the brim with geeky and not-so-geeky Apache Cocoon-related talks, events, and plenty of get-to-know opportunities. Even though last year was fantastic already, we wanted to provide you with a program that went further than the 2003 GT, with more techie content and really useful stuff for Cocoon novices and aficionados.

We believe we got there, and we kindly invite you to review the how's and when's of this year's edition at
http://www.orixo.com/events/gt2004/

This is an event for users and developers by users and developers, so pricing is again very low. Last year, we managed to gather more than 120 attendees from 16 different countries, so we hope to see you in Ghent in October as well.

Registration is open now and will last until October 6th. All info is available at http://www.orixo.com/events/gt2004/

Further information enquiries can be sent to gt2004@orixo.com

Cheers,

-- Orixo GT (GetTogether) Team

Announcing the XMLOpen Conference 2004 XMLOpen is a new event, for practitioners of both XML and open source technologies. It will provide a forum for exploring how to successfully combine software acumen with the skills needed to use XML and deploy open source software. The conference organizers are now taking submissions for conference presentations and are actively soliciting speakers for this two and a half day event to be held in Cambridge, UK from 21-23 September, 2004 at the Cambridge Computing Laboratory, Cambridge, UK. Supported by O'Reilly UK Ltd and XML:UK, XMLOpen is an event for software developers, standards developers, technology managers and other technical specialists to exchange ideas, methods, experiences and advances related to XML and open source technologies. The conference will include workshops, presentations, and practical problem solving opportunities in twin-track and plenary conference sessions. The presentations will cover techniques common to open source XML projects and will include choices in development, application development best practice, selection and use of platforms and frameworks, issues in releasing software, licensing implications, etc. For more information on how to get involved with XMLOpen, visit http://www.xmlopen.org/...

23 February 2004 - Subversion 1.0.0 Released

Subversion 1.0.0 is ready! Subversion is the long-and-eagerly-awaited next-generation source control management system. Subversion is the most advanced SCM system in the world and the Apache migration from CVS to subversion is certain to speed up now that at long last version 1.0 has been reached. Subversion is the work of many volunteers from around the world. It would be impossible to thank them all by name here, though they certainly deserve it. If you see a Subversion developer, documenter, or tester in the street, buy 'em a beer -- they've earned it. Thanks also to CollabNet, which started the Subversion project and continues to pay for three (and sometimes four) full time developers. Praise, blame, questions, and bug reports are all cheerfully accepted at users@subversion.tigris.org. Enjoy, Karl Fogel...

25 February 2003 - Enterprise Object Broker 0.9.5: Easier than EJB

Enterprise Object Broker (EOB) is an application server that tries to a be a simpler to develop for than EJB. It is not quite complete yet, but we have many demos showing local, remote, and built-in webapp usage. EOB uses AltRMI from Apache's Incubator project. AltRMI is RMI for normal Java interfaces. Server-side beans have these characteristics: no requirement to extend java.rmi.server.UnicastRemoteObject, no requirement to throw java.rmi.RemoteException for each method, no requirement to implementing java.rmi.Remote. It is simple to use and has multiple transport types, including some that pipe between classloaders in the same JVM. EOB and AltRMI are bringing .NET's remoting back to Java. Take a look at.... http://www.enterpriseobjectbroker.org - EOB's home page. http://demo.enterpriseobjectbroker.org:8080 - sometimes available demo server. http://incubator.apache.org/projects/altrmi/ - AltRMI's home page....
